This tear-jerking annual festival pays tribute to the military institutions of the United Kingdom, their staff, and those who have been killed or injured in the service of their country. 2010 marks a number of important anniversaries for various military organisations and battles including the cadet forces, the Army Physical Training Corps and the Battle of Britain.

A Celebration in the Presence of Royalty

In a busy weekend for the Queen and Royal Family, many of them attend this ceremony on the eve of Remembrance Sunday. This year there are many anniversaries to commemorate; 150 years since the formation of cadet forces, now offering 31,000 cadets a taste of military skills, 150 years of the Army Physical Training Corps and the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

The National Anthem, as always, indicates the presence of Royalty; the Queen and her party are there to offer remembrance to the families of the 111 members of the armed forces killed in Afghanistan this year.
