For those who claim change is a good thing, we're about to find out. When the NCAA commences its annual basketball madness in mid-March, two things will be apparent. There are more teams and more opportunities to watch them. Citing needs to increase revenue, both the NCAA and CBS unveiled plans to expand and enhance the tournament experience.

Opponents of expanding the pool of teams to 96 fretted about watering down the competition, similar to what has happened in college football bowl games. And while no one has officially protested against the expanded television coverage of games, presumably since no one knows what that will look like, expect there to be some complaints once the action gets started.

So what do these changes mean for you?

More Teams

All summer long experts and amateurs alike lobbied for and against the NCAA's expansion plans for the men's basketball tournament. The changes ranged anywhere from leaving the format as is, increasing the number to 68, all the way to major expansion to 96 teams. For a long time it looked as though expanding to 96 teams would win out, with the NCAA claiming it was necessary to increase revenue and keep the tournament viable.Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed, and the NCAA scaled down their plans and opted for the modest expansion to 68 teams.
