World Championship Rugby Xbox Game
The New York Jets head into the AFC Championship game full of confidence after an impressive victory over their bitter rivals, the New England Patriots. Meanwhile, the Steelers are coming off a great comeback win over their rivals, the Baltimore Ravens. So, what will happen this Sunday?
New York Jets at Pittsburgh Steelers
Jets' Offense vs. Steelers' Defense - The Jets' offense is led by second year quarterback Mark Sanchez, who despite being up and down in his career in the regular season, had proved himself to be a clutch quarterback in the post-season, having already won four road playoff games. He is helped by having one of the best offensive lines in the league protecting him, giving him plenty of time to find playmaking receivers like Braylon Edwards, former Steeler Santonio Holmes, and Jerricho Cotchery, who had his best game of the season last week. Tight end Dustin Keller is also dangerous as is Ladanian Tomlinson out of the backfield. The running game is strong as well, with the combination of Tomlinson and Shonn Green. The Steelers counter with the top scoring defense in the league led by linebackers James Harrison and Lamaar Woodley and all-world safety Troy Polamalu. The Jets pride themselves in being able to run the ball so they will try to establish the ground game early, even against the Steelers' top ranked rush defense. The Jets had some decent success on the ground in their regular season meeting with the Steelers, running for over 100 yards against a defense that only gave up about 60 a game. Most of the Jets' success on offense, though, will come through the air. The Steeler corners are average and safety Polamalu did not appear to be 100% last week, uncharacteristically missing some tackles, and the Jet receivers are great running after the catch. In the previous meeting the vaunted Steeler pass rush was also kept in check by the Jets, so Sanchez should have time to make plays. Santonio Holmes should be especially motivated going up against his former team after they traded him in the off-season. Look for him to have a big game and burn his former team.
Steelers' Offense vs. Jets' Defense - The Steelers' offense is led by two time Super Bowl champion quarterback Ben Rothlisberger. Ben is very tough and difficult to bring down; the best in the league at extending plays and making throws on the run. He will need to do the same thing in this game because the Jet pass rush is coming off it's best game of the season and the mediocre Steeler offensive line will have trouble containing them. If Ben can buy time it will give speedy receivers like Mike Wallace and Antonio Bryant, who had a huge play last week, time to get down the field and make big plays. Meanwhile veteran Hines Ward is a very clutch receiver who is great at going over the middle and moving the chains. The Jet secondary, though, has been playing great in the post-season. Everyone knows about their corners, the great Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie but safeties Brodney Pool, Eric Smith, and dime corner Drew Coleman have stepped up huge in the post-season. They should be able to keep the Steeler passing game reasonably in check, though Ben will make some plays like he always does. A lot will depend on how successful Rashard Mendenhall is on the ground. He had a good game against the Jets last time but the Jets run defense has been very good this year and even better in the post season.
